News Item Live Fire Training Enhanced at FACTS® Training (OLYMPIA, WA - September 9, 2005) Preparedness is the cornerstone of FACTS Training's emergency response training programs. ÊIn an effort to create the most realistic fire simulation experience, FACTS has acquired the world's leading fire extinguisher training device for students to engage in live training exercises. Ê FACTS instructors use the Portable Extinguisher Trainer to safely control training exercises and insure proper operation procedures are followed. The user-friendly portable extinguisher training device is designed and manufactured to provide a reality-based, propane fueled live fire training prop. With automatic ignition, "low" and "high" settings, and a "dead man" switch, students are able to operate a fire extinguisher in a real live fire environment without the safety hazards of an uncontrolled fire. Additionally, propane as a fuel source provides a clean burning, environmentally sound alternative to traditional fuels being used today. Studies have shown that when an individual is properly trained on the use of fire extinguishers, they are 2-1/2 times more effective when extinguishing a fire. As students are exposed to live fire situations, they are taught quick and calculated responses for effective use of a portable fire extinguisher, which in turn builds confidence through hands-on experience. Fire extinguisher training is critical to preserving lives and property. The National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors estimates that only 1% of the population is adequately trained to use a fire extinguisher.
